NRI darshan at Tirumala: a planning guide
Coming home and want darshan of Srivaru? How to plan your Tirumala visit from abroad, so more of your short trip goes to darshan and less to waiting.
In short: pick calmer dates, book tickets when TTD opens the quota, carry your original passport, and confirm the current NRI rules with TTD before you travel.
1. Pick your dates
Your India trip probably falls in December–January or June–August, which are busy times at Tirumala. Within your trip, weekdays are calmer than weekends, and Tuesday and Wednesday have had the shortest waits. Our crowd forecast shows the expected crowd for every day for the next 90 days, and the best time to visit page shows the pattern by month.
2. Book tickets and rooms early
TTD sells Special Entry Darshan (₹300) tickets and rooms online on its official website. Each month’s quota opens about three months ahead and the busy dates go quickly. We list the next release dates on the crowd forecast page. Book only on TTD’s official website.
3. NRI entry
TTD has offered NRIs a separate darshan entry at Tirumala on showing a valid passport. The conditions have changed over the years (how recently you arrived in India, timings, family members), so please confirm the current rules with TTD before you plan around it.
4. What to carry
- Original passport (and the ID TTD asks for your darshan type).
- Traditional dress, as per TTD’s dress code.
- A small umbrella in the rainy months. See the Tirumala weather.
5. Getting there
Fly to Tirupati (TIR), or take a train to Tirupati or Renigunta. From Tirupati, go up the ghat road by bus or taxi, or walk the Alipiri or Srivari Mettu footpath.
6. Before you leave home
- Do your sankalpam with your own city’s panchangam.
- Keep a buffer day in case of jet lag or a long queue.
- Check the crowd again a week before. Our forecast updates every day.
