How our Tirumala crowd forecast works
Plan My Darshan is an independent service. We are not affiliated with Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD).
Where the numbers come from
Our forecasts are built from TTD’s officially published daily darshan figures, combined with the temple festival calendar, the Telugu panchangam, public and school holidays, and TTD’s own notices (like Break Darshan cancellations). We keep every figure exactly as published, so our track record can always be checked.
How we forecast
We start from recent crowd levels, adjust for the day of the week and for how crowds moved at the same time last year, and flag festivals, holidays and TTD notices on each day. We are still measuring how much each festival changes crowds before we adjust for it. Each forecast shows a range, not just one number, because crowds vary.
Our method, Darshan-QPI™ (Darshan Queue Pressure Index), is described in our research paper: Darshan-QPI: Forecasting Pilgrim Footfall and Queue Pressure at Tirumala Using Public Administrative Data (SSRN).
How accurate is it?
We compare every forecast with TTD's actual count and publish the results on the Crowd Forecast page, misses included.
