On the way

The Alipiri path passes the Gali Gopuram and many small shrines, with shelters, water and rest points along the way. Take regular breaks; there is no prize for speed.

Questions

How many steps are there from Alipiri to Tirumala?

About 3,550 steps over roughly 9 km. Most people take 3 to 5 hours.

Which footpath is shorter, Alipiri or Srivari Mettu?

Srivari Mettu: about 2,400 steps over roughly 2 km, usually 1 to 2 hours. It starts near Srinivasa Mangapuram, about 15 km from Tirupati, so you need a ride to the start.

Can children and elders walk the footpath?

Many families do, slowly and with breaks. TTD has at times restricted timings and children on the footpaths for safety (wildlife), so check the current rules before you start.

What should I carry?

Water, comfortable footwear for the start (many walk the steps barefoot), a light bag and a rain cover from July to December. Luggage can usually be handed over at the base to be collected at the top; confirm the current arrangement at the counter.
